The overhyped Ryder Cup has turned out to be a bit of a non event. Fewer visitors have turned up then expected. It has rained as excected.
The only benefit has been to local hotels & the train company.
Newport itself has been very quite with people staying away on the basis of the traffic jams that Newport CCouncil was promising that the millions of visitors would cause.
Newport Councils logic that all the Ryder Cup visitors would stay in Newport and spend loads of money in Newport has been proved to be totally and completly wrong with pretty much zero golf vistors in Newport. The nearest they got was getting of trains & going straight onto the buses to the Ryder Cup
Perhaps they will learn their lesson that these events are only money spinners for the promoters. There is a small one off benefit during the event but thats all.
What visitors there were , were not impressed with Newport and most said they would be very unlikely to return for a holiday in Newport
