The Department of Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) has announced that the Secretary of State for Culture, the Olympics, Media and Sport, Jeremy Hunt, will be outlining his vision for local TV at a summit in Newport on 26th of August.
The summit will cover Wales and the South West, following the publication of a list by DCMS, in which the region was highlighted as having the potential to receive a new local TV service.
According to the DCMS, local TV is one of the Government’s top media priorities and the summit will involve a discussion with around 100 individuals from the South West and Wales region.
The event will give them the opportunity to hear more about the Secretary of State’s vision for local TV and consider and question the views of Mr Hunt and other interested parties.
It is proposed that there will be a Local station inn South East Wales to Cover Cardiff & Newport & Bridgend. I would assume coverage would extend into some of the surrounding areas.
This station is probably the one that will attract the most interest as it covers a reasonably large population. The others look to be a lot less viable
There should be more information available after the summit meeting today
